History of Lions District 301-D2
By the virtue of a Resolution unanimously passed and approved during plenary session of the 32nd Lions Multiple District 301 State Convention held in Baguio City on May 16, 1981, the re-districting of District 301-D was approved by the Lions Clubs International's Board of Directors effective Lion Year 1982-83, with the division of District 301-D1 and District 301-D2.
In 1982, during the 33rd Lions Multiple District 301 State Convention held in Olongapo City, Lion Manuel "Manny" Padolina of QC Silangan Lions Club was unanimously elected as the first District Governor and Lion Albiato "Al" B. Bernal of Pasig (Host) Lions Club was Elected unopposed as Lt. Governor. Lion Sol Wilfredo G. Florez of Angeles City Balibago Lions Club was appointed as Cabinet Secretary and Lion Mariano "Naning" B. Cruz of QC Silangan Lions Club as Cabinet Treasurer.
In 1983, when the 34th Lions Multiple District 301 State Convention was held in Cagayan de Oro City, Lion Ambassador Romulo "Romy" M. Espaldon of QC Silangan Lions Club (former Minister of Muslim Affairs) was elected unanimously as District Governor for Lion Year 1983-84 while Florencio "Tim" M. Timoteo of Mandaluyong Sandigan Lions Club was elected Lt. Governor. Lion Mariano "Naning" B. Cruz of QC Silangan Lions Club appointed Cabinet Secretary and Lion Bonifacio "Boni" del Rosario of QC Kawilihan Lions Club as Cabinet Treasurer.
QC Silangan Lions Club holds the distinction of being the first club in District 301-D2 to have two of its members elected consecutively as District Governors.
In 1984, during the 35th Lions Multiple District 301 State Convention held in Century Park Sheraton Hotel, Manila, there was a failure of elections declared by then District Governor Romulo M. Espaldon due to restraining order issued by a Manila Court. In a cabinet meeting called for the purpose of deciding an appointee for the position of District Governor, Lion Florencion "Tim" M. Timoteo of Mandaluyong Sandigan Lions Club was unanimously endorsed by the cabinet members which was subsequently approved by the International Board of Directors. Lion Mariano "Naning" B. Cruz of QC Silangan Lions Club was appointed Lt. Governor. Lion Roberto "Bobby" Tirona of Mandaluyong Sandigan Lions Club was appointed Cabinet Secretary and Lion Bonifacio "Boni" del Rosario of QC Kawilihan Lions Club as Cabinet Treasurer.
From 1985 up to 1994 the District had no contest in all its political exercises for the positions of District Governors and Vice District Governors (the new title replacing Lt. Governor beginning 1993-94).
The District had experienced almost a decade of relative peace and tranquility that became the symbol of unity and the envy of other Lion's District.
But - that peace and tranquility in the District for the past ten (10) years was shattered during the 46th Lions Multiple District State Convention held at Subic, Olongapo City, where the district witnessed a breath-taking election for the position of District Governor for Lion Year 1995-1996.
The District had one of the most expensive and hotly contested election in the Castro-Balbanero Team vs Santos-Navarro Team which subsequently reduced the clubs from 56 to 46, due to the formation of the Association of Philippine Lions Inc. (APLI) which was not authorized by Lions Clubs International.
